About Me

Hi there-

For those of you I have not yet met, I am Colin McLellan, and I would very much like to be your Deputy Mayor.

I am inspired by the potential of North Kawartha. I look forward to being part of a council that leads by example, a council that is unafraid of innovation and healthy discussion in order to meet that potential.

My connection to North Kawartha spans my entire life, starting with childhood summers on Chandos Lake and leading to my life today as a full time resident in Apsley. Over my eight years on Council, my focus has remained straightforward: put our community first. Whether advocating for a safer Highway 28, pushing for responsible municipal purchasing, or flagging road repairs while out on runs, I believe local government should be grounded in the needs of the people living here.

Throughout my time in office, I’ve worked to turn community priorities into practical results. As Chair of the Short Term Rentals Committee, I led a dedicated team in delivering a balanced, phased strategy to address local housing and neighborhood concerns.

When it comes to environmental stewardship, my work  when elected Chair of the Crowe Valley Conservation Authority Board has focused on delivering real, practical results for our watershed. Leading the board has meant tackling complex local priorities - safeguarding municipal drinking water supplies, updating outdated policy manuals so residents get clear and consistent answers, and taking responsibility for seasonal water level controls to balance flood mitigation and power generation.

To ensure taxpayer dollars were used as effectively as possible, I helped negotiate and co-chair a landmark shared service agreement with the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. This partnership brought operational efficiencies across watershed lines and secured the heavy equipment needed to finally schedule long overdue road repairs to The Gut Conservation Area, improving public access to one of our most treasured natural landmarks.

As an avid hiker and strong advocate for safe active transportation, I am committed to common sense improvements that help everyone navigate our township and enjoy North Kawartha’s beauty.

At home in Apsley, I share life with my two cats. Mouse, who is very sweet, and Harlan, who remains a work in progress.
